Chapter 12: A Mother’s Legacy

As the twins turned eight, Claire introduced them to the simple beauty of art and music.
On a rainy Sunday afternoon, the farmhouse living room was transformed into an art studio. Canvases and water jars were spread across drop cloths on the wooden floor.
""Mommy, look!"" Liam shouted, holding up a paper filled with wild splashes of emerald and yellow. ""It’s the lake when the sun hits the water!""
""And mine is the boat!"" Lucas added, showing a carefully folded paper boat coated in waterproof beeswax, painted with bright blue stripes.
Claire smiled, kneeling beside them. ""Do you remember the words to the song?""
The two boys began to sing, their clear, youthful voices harmonizing in the warm room:
> *""Fold the paper, guide the sail,*
> *Through the thunder and the gale.*
> *Though the river runs so deep,*
> *Love is a promise the waters keep.""*
Andrew walked in, carrying a tray of warm apple cider. He stopped in the doorway, listening to the melody that had once been their secret whisper in the dark, now ringing through a home filled with unfiltered joy.

He set the tray down and joined them on the floor, adding a brushstroke of golden amber to the corner of Liam’s canvas.
