Chapter 12

The restructuring initiative spearheaded by Chloe moved with breathtaking speed over the following weeks. Armed with the full backing of Elias Thorne and the corporate legal team, she audited every customer service training module across all domestic and international routes. The archaic manuals that taught flight attendants to tolerate passenger abuse in the name of hospitality were completely rewritten, replaced by rigorous protocols that prioritized the safety, psychological well-being, and absolute authority of frontline staff. If a passenger engaged in verbal harassment, discrimination, or physical intimidation, flight crews were now legally and operationally empowered to issue immediate warnings, coordinate with law enforcement upon landing, and permanently blacklist offenders from all Thorne-affiliated carriers. The initiative sent shockwaves through the aviation industry, sparking intense debates in national media about class privilege, workplace safety, and corporate accountability.

In the penthouse office, Elias reviewed the preliminary feedback reports from regional managers across the country. The vast majority of frontline workers had expressed overwhelming relief and gratitude, reporting a noticeable drop in abusive behavior from entitled travelers who now realized that their money could no longer buy immunity from basic human decency. Yet, the transition was not without its friction. Several legacy clients, accustomed to receiving preferential treatment regardless of their conduct, attempted to lobby the board for exemptions, threatening to pull their investments if the new policies were strictly enforced. Elias met every single one of those threats with the exact same response: a polite, unyielding refusal. Money was replaceable; human dignity was not.

Late one evening, Chloe stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of the executive suite, looking out at the illuminated skyline while reviewing the final draft of the new employee protection manual. The heavy burden she had carried as a stressed flight attendant had transformed into a profound sense of purpose. She had stepped out of the aisle of a Boeing 777 and into a position where she could fundamentally alter the lives of thousands of workers across the globe.

The heavy oak door swung open quietly, and Elias walked in, carrying two cups of black coffee without any milk or sugar. He handed one to Chloe, a subtle smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

“You’ve changed the entire trajectory of this corporation in less than a month, Chloe,” Elias said quietly, taking a sip from his cup. “How does it feel to be on this side of the table?”

Chloe accepted the cup, her fingers wrapping around the warm ceramic. She smiled, looking down at the dark liquid before meeting his gaze.

“It feels like we’re finally building something that will last, Mr. Thorne,” Chloe replied softly. “Though I have to admit, every time I hand someone a cup of coffee now, I get a brief flashback to row two.”

Elias chuckled, a warm, resonant sound that broke the corporate formality of the room. “Rest assured, Chloe, any coffee spilled in our airspace from now on will be cleaned up by the person who dropped it, regardless of what's written on their boarding pass.”

They stood together in comfortable silence, watching the lights of the city pulse below them, knowing that the sky was finally becoming a safer place for everyone.
