Special Agent Thomas Miller of the Department of Justice stepped into the boardroom, flanked by four armed federal marshals and two forensic IT specialists carrying hardware imaging units.
"Gentlemen, Ms. Sterling," Agent Miller announced, flashing his gold badge. "Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has issued an immediate preservation order and criminal search warrant for all physical and digital records relating to Loratinib-B clinical trials, lots 7000 through 8000."
"This is an outrageous governmental overreach!" Diane Sterling protested, standing up. "These are proprietary corporate trial files protected under trade secret statutes!"
"Your trade secrets contain diethylene glycol, counselor," Miller replied with lethal calm. "Step away from the terminals. Forensic specialists, seize all server nodes, hard drives, and physical inventory logs."
Meanwhile, thirty miles north in the rolling, wooded hills of Bucks County, Nathan had coordinated the safe relocation of Hannah, Rebecca, and Maya to a quiet historic farmhouse owned by his family.
The farmhouse was warm and spacious, smelling of cedarwood, dried lavender, and woodsmoke from the large brick hearth. Large windows overlooked a meadow covered in golden autumn grass and wild chicory.
Rebecca stood in the kitchen, brewing fresh chamomile tea for Hannah, who was resting on a wide floral sofa under a hand-stitched wool quilt.
Maya was sitting on the wooden floor with a set of watercolors Nathan had bought at a local general store, painting a picture of the red barn outside.
"They're going to come after you legally, Hannah," Rebecca said, setting the steaming mug on the coffee table. "They have millions of dollars and endless lawyers."
"Let them come," Hannah said, taking a warm sip of tea. Her color had fully returned, and her breathing was deep and tranquil. "Truth has a density that money cannot dissolve. When you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what lies you told yesterday."
Nathan walked into the room, holding his personal phone.
"The federal marshals just raided the central research facility in New Jersey," Nathan announced, a rare, radiant smile breaking across his tired face. "They caught Apex’s logistics team loading forty cartons of counterfeit capsules into an incinerator truck. The entire paper trail has been preserved."

Rebecca dropped onto the sofa beside Hannah, burying her face in her hands.
The tears that flowed were not tears of exhaustion or terror, but the profound, overwhelming release of a mother who finally knew her child was safe.
