Chapter 7: The Confrontation at the Office

The glass doors of the downtown law firm of Harrison & Gable gleamed under the midday sun. Sarah strode through the lobby with a determined stride, Clara trailing nervously a few steps behind. Lily was safely staying with a trusted neighbor downstairs in the building's lobby play area, but Sarah could still feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins. She pushed open the frosted glass door of the private conference room without knocking, startling the three occupants inside.
At the head of the mahogany table sat Eleanor, her posture rigid in her wool vest. Beside her sat Melissa, smirking as she held a fountain pen poised over a thick stack of legal papers. Attorney Harrison looked up over his half-moon spectacles, looking deeply uncomfortable.
"Sarah?" Eleanor barked, her voice cutting through the quiet room like broken glass. "How dare you barge in here? And after your ungrateful daughter caused such a disturbance yesterday."
"Quiet, Mother," Sarah said, her voice terrifyingly calm. She stepped fully into the room, her presence commanding immediate attention. She tossed a thick manila folder onto the center of the table, sliding it past the startled attorney right toward Melissa.
Melissa’s smirk faltered. "What is this nonsense?"
"That," Sarah said, leaning her hands on the edge of the table and staring directly into her sister’s eyes, "is five years of forged wire transfers, intercepted property tax notices, and fraudulent power-of-attorney documents. You’ve been stealing from mother's estate trust while convincing her that I was the one abandoning her financial responsibilities."
Attorney Harrison immediately pulled the folder toward himself, flipping open the pages. His professional demeanor shifted as his eyes scanned the printed bank logs and signature comparisons. He frowned deeply, looking up at Eleanor. "Mrs. Vance, did you authorize these withdrawals to an overseas account in the Cayman Islands?"
Eleanor turned her sharp gaze to Melissa, color draining from her face. "Melissa? What is he talking about?"

Melissa slammed her pen down on the table, her face contorting in rage. "She’s lying! Sarah is fabricating this to steal the inheritance because she’s bitter we kicked her ungrateful brat out onto the street!"
The mask had slipped completely. The venom in Melissa’s voice echoed off the polished walls, exposing the vicious core of the woman who had orchestrated Lily’s cruel exile.
