Chapter 10 - The Confession on Screen

Leo froze in horror, his small hands dropping the brass key as he stared at the glowing laptop screen. On the display, Mr. Vance was pacing back and forth in front of a bound and gagged Clara, holding a thick folder labeled Project Aegis.
"You always were a stubborn old bat, Clara," Mr. Vance’s voice echoed clearly through the laptop's speakers in the subterranean vault. "Did you really think I wouldn't find out you made copies of the original adoption and trust documents?"
Clara muffled an angry retort through the gag, her eyes blazing with defiance.
Mr. Vance leaned down, grabbing her by the chin with a sickeningly casual cruelty. "Leo is not my biological son. He’s the son of my late business partner—the man I had to eliminate when he tried to expose my embezzlement scheme a decade ago. And Eleanor? She’s not his stepmother. She’s the proxy shareholder who helped me launder the money into offshore accounts."
In the underground bunker, Leo felt the ground drop out from under him. The man he had called father was his mother’s murderer, and his entire existence was built on a foundation of stolen blood and lies.
Thomas cursed loudly, slamming his fist against the metal desk. "The bastard recorded his own confession to the mainframe. He thinks he's untouchable."

Suddenly, the video feed flickered, and Mr. Vance looked directly into the security camera lens inside the mansion, smiling a chilling, knowing smile.
