Chapter 3 - The Heavy Iron Bench

The iron bench was agonizingly heavy, but adrenaline flooded Jax’s veins, granting him a surge of raw, brutal strength. He hauled the decorative furniture off the stone patio, grunting as the metal legs scraped harshly against the ground. The gathered onlookers from the estate party crowded near the terrace arches, whispering in hushed, horrified tones, too paralyzed by shock to offer any help.
"Step back, everybody! Move!" Jax yelled over his shoulder, his voice cutting through the murmurs of the crowd like a razor.
He hoisted the iron bench up to his chest, his tattooed muscles straining until the veins in his neck stood out like thick cords. With a fierce roar, he charged back toward the locked SUV, aiming squarely for the driver-side window where the thickest tint obscured the interior.
"Jax, no! Not that side! The child is in the back!" Elena shrieked, stumbling forward with her hands raised in utter horror.
Jax twisted his momentum mid-stride, shifting his target to the rear passenger window where Lily had been pressing her hands just moments before. He swung the heavy bench forward with devastating force, putting every ounce of his athletic power behind the blow.
The iron corner struck the center of the tinted glass with the deafening sound of a gunshot.
Instead of shattering into a million dull cubes, the glass bowed inward like a rubber sheet, held together by the heavy industrial security film lining the interior. A thick web of spider cracks instantly spider-webbed across the surface, but the barrier refused to break completely.
"Again!" Lily cried, her small hands covering her ears from the concussive blast.
Jax pulled the bench back, his breathing ragged and burning his lungs. His hands were shaking from the sheer impact, but he refused to stop. He raised the iron frame for a second strike, muscles burning as he targeted the exact same weak point in the center of the glass.
"Come on!" he snarled, driving the heavy metal corner into the web of cracks with a second brutal blow.

This time, the safety film tore with a violent ripping sound, and the glass collapsed inward, showering the interior seat with jagged shards. A rush of stale, cold air escaped the vehicle, carrying the faint, chemical scent of burning electrical wiring.
