Chapter 12

The elevator chimed softly as it reached the forty-second floor of GreenHorizon Tower, opening directly into a sprawling, ultra-modern executive boardroom. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a panoramic view of the sprawling city below, bathed in the bright morning light. Around the sleek marble conference table sat half a dozen senior executives in tailored suits, led by Arthur Pendelton himself—a silver-haired man with cold, calculating eyes and an expensive silk tie.

The heavy oak double doors pushed open with a sharp click, and Sarah Collins stepped into the room, flanked by two armed state troopers, Detective Vance, Leo, and Elena.

Pendelton stood up immediately from his leather chair, his expression shifting smoothly from irritation to practiced corporate charm. "Ms. Collins? This is a private corporate meeting. You cannot simply walk in here without an appointment or a—"

"A federal warrant and a multi-state grand jury indictment for environmental fraud, document forgery, and criminal conspiracy," Collins interrupted smoothly, dropping a thick stack of legal documents onto the polished marble table right in front of him.

Pendelton’s calm facade cracked slightly. His eyes darted past the attorney general to land squarely on Elena, and then on Leo. A flicker of genuine panic crossed his features before he forced his expression back into a mask of icy composure. "These allegations are entirely baseless. This woman is a disgruntled former employee who was terminated for erratic and unstable behavior. She vandalized private property just yesterday."

"The pink paint was a bit dramatic, I'll grant you that," Detective Vance chimed in dryly, stepping forward with his hands resting casually on his belt. "However, the three-foot soil sample we pulled from beneath the solar installation at Howard Vance's residence tells a completely different story. Zinc-cadmium slurry directly linked to the closed Oakridge site."

Pendelton’s face went completely grey. He looked around the boardroom at his fellow executives, whose panicked whispers instantly erupted into a chaotic chorus of denial and self-preservation. One by one, the board members began sliding their leather portfolios away from Pendelton, distancing themselves from the sinking ship with predatory speed.

Leo stepped up to the edge of the conference table, placing both hands flat on the polished surface. He looked directly into Arthur Pendelton’s terrified eyes, the ghosts of the past finally laid to rest.

"You ruined my brother's life and buried the truth for five years," Leo said, his voice ringing with quiet, absolute authority. "Today, your house of cards comes down."
