Chapter 7 - The Safety Deposit Vault

Victoria’s eyes narrowed into venomous slits as she stared at Clara, her voice dropping into a lethal, trembling whisper.

"You stupid, treacherous little insect," Victoria hissed, taking a slow step toward Clara. "You think destroying me saves you? You were my accomplice from day one. If I go down for forgery and fraud, your fingerprints are on every single document from here to Zurich."

Clara didn't flinch. The terror that had gripped her throat moments earlier had burned away, replaced by a cold, hardened clarity.

"I know," Clara replied quietly, meeting Victoria’s furious gaze without blinking. "And I'm ready to take whatever prison sentence I've earned. But I refuse to let you walk away clean while you scapegoat everyone else for your greed."

Harrison Vance closed the leather briefcase with a sharp snap, securing the red-sealed envelope inside. He turned his attention back to Victoria, his expression completely devoid of pity.

"Your Swiss safety deposit box, Victoria, was frozen by court order three hours ago," Harrison stated calmly, watching the last vestiges of color drain from Victoria’s face. "Federal investigators are executing a search warrant on it as we speak. Along with your offshore accounts in the Caymans."

Victoria staggered backward, her dark blue satin gown swirling around her ankles as her knees buckled slightly. She caught herself against the edge of a pillar, her chest heaving as she tried to process the total, systematic dismantling of her life's work. Every asset, every connection, every hidden dollar—gone in a matter of hours.

Julian finally picked up the pen. His hand was remarkably steady as he scrawled his signature across the forfeiture document, officially signing away his birthright, his inheritance, and his entire identity as a Vanguard.

"It's over, Victoria," Julian said, not looking up as he placed the pen back down on the table. "We lost."

Before Victoria could launch into another tirade, the heavy double doors at the entrance swung open once more. This time, it wasn't a lawyer or a hotel manager. Two plainclothes federal agents walked briskly into the ballroom, their badges gleaming coldly under the crystal chandeliers. They bypassed the stunned crowd, heading directly toward Victoria with purposeful, measured strides.

"Victoria Sterling?" the lead agent asked, his voice flat and authoritative. "You are under arrest for securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny."
