Chapter 15: A New Dawn at Table Fourteen

Three months later, the evening air was crisp and cool as the glittering lights of Manhattan reflected against the glass windows of L’Orangerie. Inside, the restaurant was as opulent and sophisticated as ever, filled with the soft hum of wealthy diners enjoying fine wine and exquisite food. At table fourteen—the exact same table where a terrifying confrontation had once unfolded—sat a family of four.

Victoria sat at the head of the table, dressed in a sleek navy blazer, smiling as she watched her two boys laughing together over a basket of warm artisan bread. Julian, impeccably dressed in his dark blue suit, was excitedly explaining a new video game level to Leo. The homeless boy in the torn gray hoodie was gone forever; in his place sat Leo Vance, legally adopted into the family just a week prior, wearing a crisp white shirt and a tailored blue blazer that matched Julian's. His bruises had long since healed, replaced by a healthy glow, a genuine smile, and the bright, untroubled eyes of a child who no longer had to look over his shoulder.

The maître d’ approached the table with a warm, respectful smile, holding a large, steaming plate of spaghetti with rich tomato sauce—placed directly before Leo, exactly as it had been on the night that changed everything.

"Everything to your satisfaction, Mrs. Vance?" the maître d’ asked politely.

Victoria looked across the table at Julian and Leo, feeling a profound, overwhelming sense of peace and gratitude settle deep into her soul. A vagrant child, battered and starving, had stepped out of the shadows to save her son, and in doing so, had saved them all.

"Everything is perfect," Victoria said softly, raising her glass of sparkling water. "We are exactly where we belong."
