Chapter 14: The Fall of the Syndicate

The federal courtroom on the fourth floor was suffocatingly quiet. The heavy oak doors were locked from the inside, guarded by armed marshals. Judge Elizabeth Vance—no relation to the corporate dynasty, a notoriously incorruptible federal magistrate—sat behind the high mahogany bench, her expression stern as she reviewed the digital contents of the flash drive displayed on her private monitor. Seated at the defense table, Arthur Vance looked pale and visibly shaken, his high-priced defense attorney frantically whispering advice that Arthur was no longer listening to.
Victoria sat at the plaintiff's table, flanked by Julian and Leo. Julian had one arm wrapped around Leo’s shoulders, offering quiet, steady comfort to the boy who had saved his life. Leo stared up at the high vaulted ceiling of the courtroom, the fear slowly draining from his dark eyes as the reality of justice began to take root. He was no longer a ghost hiding in the shadows of the streets; he was a witness, a survivor, and a hero.
"The digital evidence provided by the minor witness, Leo Vance, corroborated by corporate ledgers and encrypted audio logs," Judge Vance began, her clear, resonant voice echoing through the silent courtroom, "establishes a systematic pattern of criminal conspiracy, corporate extortion, and unlawful displacement orchestrated by Arthur Vance and the executive board of Vance & Sterling Real Estate."
The judge paused, looking down sternly at Arthur. "Federal agents have already executed simultaneous search warrants at the firm's headquarters and offsite storage facilities. Warrants for the arrest of all co-conspirators have been signed and executed. Mr. Vance, you are remanded into federal custody without bail pending trial."

A collective murmur rippled through the gallery as two federal marshals stepped up behind Arthur, placing cold steel cuffs around his wrists. Arthur didn't struggle; he simply closed his eyes, his polished corporate facade finally shattering completely as he was led away through the side doors of the courtroom.
Victoria exhaled a long, shuddering breath, feeling the crushing weight of the last twenty-four hours lift from her shoulders. She turned to Leo, reaching out to gently touch his hand. "It's over, Leo," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "You're free."
