Chapter 15: Dawn of Justice

The blue progress bar on the massive monitor reached one hundred percent with a soft, chiming confirmation tone: Upload Complete. Data Transmitted to Federal Authorities.
Outside the reinforced glass windows of the communications hub, flashing red and blue lights painted the walls in a brilliant, steady rhythm. Dozens of federal agents and municipal police cruisers had finally breached the perimeter, flooding the courtyard and sealing off every exit. The heavy battering against the oak door stopped abruptly as Pendelton and his guards realized their escape route was completely cut off.
Elena exhaled a long, shaky breath, leaning her hands against the edge of the console. She turned around to see Clara and Leo watching her with wide, reverent eyes. The terror that had gripped them in the grand ballroom hours ago was gone, replaced by a quiet, unbreakable resilience.
“We did it,” Leo whispered softly, a small, genuine smile breaking through on his face despite the fading red marks on his cheek.
Elena knelt down, pulling both children into a warm, fierce embrace. “We did it together,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion.
Moments later, the heavy oak door of the communications room was unlocked from the outside, swinging open to reveal Detective Marcus flanked by federal marshals in tactical gear. Arthur Pendelton and his guards were already in handcuffs, their expensive suits looking disheveled as they were led away down the corridor.
“The transmission went through,” Marcus announced, walking into the room with a tired but triumphant grin. “Federal warrants have just been executed across the state. The entire Vance Foundation has been frozen, and the Attorney General’s office is already preparing the paperwork to restore the estate and the legal guardianship back to Clara’s rightful family.”
Clara looked up at Elena, her small hand reaching out to touch the silver crown that had been safely recovered from the evidence bag and placed on the desk. “Does this mean… we’re finally safe?”
“Yes, sweetheart,” Elena said softly, taking Clara’s hand and squeezing it gently. “You’re home.”
