Chapter 15 - The Final Threshold

The white static consumed the observation deck, swallowing the rows of computers, the metal flooring, and the endless banks of data servers until there was nothing left but a vast, blinding expanse of pure light.
Arthur felt his body begin to dissolve, the heavy fabric of his dark blue suit fading into mist, the cold air warming into a gentle, natural breeze that smelled faintly of pine trees and fresh rain.
He looked down at his hand; it was solid, warm, and entirely real.
Beside him, Clara stood with her long dark wavy hair catching the morning sun, wearing a simple cotton sundress instead of her satin blouse, smiling as she took a deep breath of the open air.
Maya and Leo were laughing, running ahead across a lush green meadow toward a modest, sunlit wooden cabin with an open front door that welcomed them in without a single lock or security camera in sight.
Arthur turned back one last time, half expecting to see the silhouette of the elder man standing in the void, but there was nothing behind them now—only an empty horizon stretching out infinitely under a clear, endless blue sky.
The digital hum in his ears was gone, replaced by the authentic sound of birds singing in the trees and the distant rustle of leaves in the morning wind.
He walked forward across the grass, his footsteps leaving genuine prints in the damp earth, moving toward the open door where his children stood waiting for him on the front porch.

"Dad, hurry up!" Leo called back, his voice bright and untroubled, carrying no trace of fear or tears.
Arthur smiled, quickened his pace, and stepped across the threshold into a quiet, unscripted world where every tomorrow was entirely their own to write.
