Chapter 1

The white-tiled floor of L'Étoile Royale felt freezing against Elena’s knees. Shards of dark hair were scattered around her like broken promises, catching the harsh glare of the crystal chandeliers overhead. Julian, his tailored suit immaculate and his breath smelling heavily of vintage Cabernet, lowered his smartphone after snapping another cruel photograph. The flash had barely faded from Elena’s retinas.
"Smile! This is going to be hilarious tomorrow," Julian sneered, elbowing his corporate colleague Marcus, who snorted into his crystal wine glass.
Elena wiped her damp cheek with the corner of her stained white apron. Her fingers brushed against the cold steel of the heavy hairdressing scissors lying near her left knee—the tool they had forcibly used to shear off her long, dark hair just moments before while holding her down against her will. A deep, burning fury ignited beneath her ribs, replacing the helpless shock that had paralyzed her moments earlier. She kept her chin lifted, her breathing shallow but controlled, refusing to let them see her truly break.
"My shift ends at 10," Elena said, her voice shaking slightly before solidifying into a sharp, cold edge. "After that, I'm no longer your waitress."
The men laughed louder, treating her defiance as a delightful performance meant solely for their amusement. They had money, power, and the arrogant security of men who believed consequences were things that happened exclusively to other people. They owned stakes in real estate, media firms, and shipping conglomerates. To them, Elena was merely a temporary distraction, an immigrant worker whose dignity could be purchased for the price of a hefty tip she would never actually receive.
Heavy footsteps echoed across the expansive dining room as the massive mahogany double doors swung open with a resounding thud. A tall, imposing figure stepped into the dining room, draped in an expensive black wool coat over an immaculate charcoal suit. Two silent bodyguards flanked him instantly, their eyes scanning the room with lethal precision.
"Sir, Mr. Val is here," one of the bodyguards murmured quietly, his voice cutting through the laughter like a blade.
The four men in suits froze mid-chuckle. The wine glasses stopped halfway to their mouths. Julian’s face drained of color as he recognized the silhouette of the man who owned half the financial district and controlled debts that could sink multinational corporations overnight. Mr. Val’s face was a mask of absolute, terrifying fury. His jaw was clenched, his dark eyes fixed entirely on the grotesque scene unfolding on the white tiles.

Without a second glance at the paralyzed executives, Mr. Val strode across the polished floor. He knelt down beside Elena, ignoring the dirt and the stray locks of hair. He placed a heavy, comforting hand on her head, his fingers gently brushing against her unevenly cropped scalp with surprising tenderness. His gaze searched her face with profound concern.
"Who the hell is that?" Mr. Val demanded, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly register that reverberated off the crystal chandeliers. He looked straight into her eyes, bypassing all social protocol. "Who did this to you, Elena?"
