Chapter 14

A heavy, suffocating silence descended over the Grand Meridian ballroom as the massive projector screen began playing the encrypted files.
Clear, undeniable audio recordings of Victoria Vance ordering the destruction of the historic block echoed loudly through the professional surround sound speakers.
Financial ledgers detailing massive political bribes and illegal kickbacks scrolled relentlessly across the giant display for every investor and journalist to see.
Victoria stood frozen at the podium, the color draining completely from her face as she stared up at the unfolding evidence of her crimes.
The polite applause of the elite audience instantly dissolved into angry murmurs, camera flashes, and chaotic shouting from reporters in the back.
Back in the media control booth, the waitress pulled her hand away from the server as the bulky security guard groaned, pushing himself up off the floor.
He lunged forward with a furious roar, grabbing her by the shoulder and slamming her against the mixing console.
"You little interference!" the guard snarled, raising a heavy fist to strike her down.
Before his fist could connect, the door burst open, and Leo slammed a heavy metal fire extinguisher directly into the guard's back, sending him crashing to the floor unconscious.
Leo dropped the extinguisher, breathing heavily as he grabbed the waitress's hand and pulled her toward the exit.
"We need to get out of here before the building is swarmed," Leo urged, sprinting down the hallway toward the rear loading dock.
Out in the ballroom, chaos had reached a fever pitch as police officers hired for private security realized the broadcast was legitimate and rushed the stage.
Victoria Vance tried to slip away toward the side exit, her composure completely shattered as she clutched the lapels of her black jacket in sheer panic.
Before she could reach the door, Marcus Vance stepped out from behind a pillar, blocking her path with a calm, unrelenting stare.
"End of the line, Victoria," Marcus said quietly, holding up his phone to record her defeated expression.
Victoria sneer twisted her face into an ugly mask of rage as she glared at the man blocking her freedom.
"You think this ruins me? I own half the judges in this state! I'll be out before morning!"
"Not this time," a deep, authoritative voice boomed from behind Marcus.
Three federal agents in dark suits stepped out from the shadows, flashing their official badges as they surrounded the cornered corporate executive.
Victoria's knees buckled slightly as the cold reality of federal indictment finally settled over her.
As the agents placed the heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists, Victoria caught a glimpse of the waitress and Leo watching from the balcony above.

The waitress looked down at her former tormentor with calm, restrained dignity, her posture straight and unbroken.
Victoria opened her mouth to speak, but the federal agents turned her around and led her away toward the waiting police cruisers outside.
