Chapter 5 - The Digital Avalanche

The shattered smartphone screen on the hospital floor hissed softly as a cascade of automated chat notifications buzzed in rapid succession. Madison’s online community, previously dedicated to praising her aesthetic lifestyle, had executed a brutal pivot in a matter of seconds. The comment section was no longer filled with heart emojis and outfit inquiries; it was a roaring sea of outrage, doxxing threats, and demands for total accountability.
"Your followers are turning on you, Miss Vance," one of the security guards said bluntly, stepping forward to secure Arthur’s discarded cardboard box. "You might want to pick up your things. The police are waiting in the lobby."
Arthur slowly pushed himself up from the floor, his bespoke suit wrinkled and ruined. He looked at his daughter with hollow, defeated eyes. "Madison... go home. Get whatever cash is left in the safe. Leave the country."
"Leave? With what?" Madison’s voice rose to a shrill shriek, her carefully maintained poise completely disintegrated. "My cards are declined! My apartment lease is in your corporate name! I don't even know how to drive a car that doesn't park itself!"
Clara sighed, slipping her clipboard under her arm. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, plain business card, holding it out toward the frantic young woman. "Take a breath, Madison. You don't need to flee the country. You just need to stop running from reality."
Madison slapped the card away, sending it fluttering across the floor. "I don't want your charity! I don't want your pity! You did this! You ruined my life over some old accounting books!"
"Those books represent human lives, Madison," Doctor Vance said firmly, stepping between the angry girl and the nurse. "And right now, your father is facing federal indictment for grand larceny and wire fraud. You need to decide whether you are going to stand by a criminal or start telling the truth."
Arthur flinched at the word 'criminal,' slumping against the wall like a puppet with cut strings. "She didn't know, Clara. Leave Madison out of this. I hid the shell companies from her mother and her."
"She benefited directly from every stolen dollar, Arthur, and she used her social media platform to mock the very working-class people whose trust fund you looted," Clara replied coldly. "Ignorance is no longer an excuse."
Two uniformed police officers rounded the corner, their heavy boots echoing with a steady, menacing rhythm. They walked straight past the terrified teacup poodle and stopped on either side of Arthur Vance.

"Arthur Vance?" the lead officer asked, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You're under arrest for corporate fraud and embezzlement."
