Chapter 6: The Sister's Return

Julian froze, the color draining entirely from his face as he stared at the woman approaching the table. He gripped the edge of the polished oak so tightly his knuckles turned completely white, the skin stretching taut over his hands.
"Clara," Julian whispered, the word escaping his lips like a hiss of air escaping a punctured tire. "You’re supposed to be in Geneva. You have no business here."
Clara stopped three paces away from her brother, her gaze entirely devoid of warmth. "And miss the grand liquidation of our father’s estate? Not a chance, Julian. Especially not when you’ve been spending the last five years telling the probate court that I had voluntarily renounced my inheritance in writing."
One of Julian’s attorneys cleared his throat nervously, adjusting his tie while glancing between the siblings. "Mr. Vance, you neglected to inform us that there was an active co-beneficiary contesting the estate distribution."
"She signed over her rights years ago!" Julian snapped, his veneer of corporate confidence completely shattering under the weight of the sudden confrontation. He pointed a shaking finger at his sister. "She abandoned the family name when she married that penniless academic. She forfeited everything!"
"I signed a temporary power of attorney for estate management while I was recovering from major surgery abroad, Julian," Clara replied evenly, her voice steady and clear. "A power of attorney that specifically expired three years ago, despite your best efforts to falsify the renewal signatures in the municipal registry."
Elena slid the manila folder across the smooth wooden surface toward the defense lawyers. "We have the forensic handwriting analysis right here, verified by independent experts retained by the Sterling financial group. Every signature transferring trust assets into Julian’s private offshore accounts has been proven fraudulent."
The lead attorney opened the folder, scanned the first page with practiced speed, and then slowly slid his glasses down his nose to look at his client. "Mr. Vance... did you authorize these transfers?"
Julian slammed his hand onto the table, causing the heavy crystal water pitcher to rattle violently against its tray. "This is a conspiracy! The Sterlings are trying a hostile takeover of Vance Enterprises by fabricating documents and manipulating my estranged sister!"

"Enough," Arthur said, his voice cutting through the rising hysteria with absolute authority. He stood up slowly from his chair, towering over the table. "The police are currently executing a search warrant at your private residence, Julian. By the time this meeting concludes, your bank accounts will be frozen, and your passport will be confiscated."
Julian stared at Arthur, realizing with mounting horror that there was no escape left. Every door was sealed. Every exit was blocked. The careful empire of lies he had built over half a decade had crumbled in less than twelve hours, brought down not by corporate espionage, but by a little girl dropping her hair bow in a brightly lit hallway.
