Chapter 3

The morning sun cast long, golden shadows across the sprawling penthouse suite of the Grand Aurelia, a space Victoria Sterling had illegally occupied for the past four years. Charlotte stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, looking out over the bustling city streets below. A soft knock at the heavy oak door broke her concentration. Benjamin Ross, a seasoned corporate restructuring attorney with sharp gray temples and an impeccably tailored navy suit, entered quietly, carrying a thick binder of financial documents.
"Good morning, Charlotte," Benjamin said, closing the door securely behind him. He walked over to the mahogany desk and laid the binder down. "The preliminary audit of the overseas accounts is complete. It is worse than we initially projected. They haven't just been skimming profits; they’ve been using the hotel’s primary real estate holdings as collateral for private high-risk loans."
Charlotte turned from the window, her expression calm yet intensely focused. "Can they liquidate the properties before the court issues the final injunction?"
"We filed emergency injunctions in three different jurisdictions at midnight," Benjamin replied, opening the binder to reveal a series of highlighted ledger sheets. "The assets are frozen. However, we have a significant operational problem on the lower floors. Victoria has spent the morning quietly rallying the department heads. She’s told the staff that you are a hostile corporate raider attempting an illegal takeover, and many of the veteran employees who owe their jobs to her are threatening a walkout by noon."
Charlotte walked over to the desk, her fingers tracing the edge of the leather portfolio she had carried into the hallway the day before. "They are loyal to the institution, Benjamin, not to Victoria. They just don't know the truth yet."
"Truth is a luxury in hotel management," Benjamin warned gently. "If the kitchen staff and the front desk clerks walk out during the middle of the international investors' convention this afternoon, the stock value will plummet, and the ensuing scandal could force us into Chapter Eleven restructuring anyway."
"Then we go downstairs," Charlotte said decisively. "We don't hide in the penthouse. We face the staff directly."

Benjamin studied her for a long moment, nodding slowly with evident respect. "It's a bold move. Victoria is currently holding an unscheduled all-hands meeting in the grand ballroom. She’s trying to consolidate her remaining influence before the federal marshals arrive with the formal eviction notices."
"Let's not keep them waiting," Charlotte replied. She straightened the lapel of her blazer, her posture radiating quiet authority. As they exited the penthouse and descended in the private elevator, Charlotte felt the familiar weight of her family's legacy settling firmly back onto her shoulders, ready to weather the storm ahead.
