Chapter 8: Corporate Counter-Strike

Bella’s face went pale under her carefully applied makeup. She had underestimated Eleanor, viewing her merely as an employee, a hired gun who would always follow the path of least financial resistance. She had forgotten that Eleanor’s loyalty was anchored to the corporate survival of Conny Global as an independent entity, not to Bella’s personal hostile takeover scheme.

“You’re bluffing, Eleanor,” Bella hissed, taking a step toward the older woman. “The board votes tomorrow morning. With Conny incapacitated, I have the votes secured.”

“You had the votes secured,” Eleanor corrected smoothly, pulling her right hand out of her pocket to tap a sleek silver stylus against her palm. “That was before I filed the preemptive governance audit request twenty minutes ago, based on evidence of financial mismanagement and domestic coercion provided by Miss Sophia.”

Sophia’s breath hitched. She looked at Eleanor with a mixture of shock and profound gratitude. Throughout the harrowing ordeal, she had assumed Eleanor was entirely complicit in her father’s corporate obsession. She had misjudged the older woman’s loyalties, missing the complex web of survival strategies operating behind those calm, composed eyes.

Conny looked between Eleanor and Bella, a profound sense of relief washing over his strained features. He reached out, steadying himself against the glass desk. “It’s over, Bella,” he said quietly, his voice devoid of anger, carrying only the flat weight of finality. “Pack your things from the estate. The lawyers will handle the settlement terms.”

Bella stared at her husband, realizing the trap had closed around her with terrifying precision. All her months of maneuvering, gaslighting, and financial manipulation had been neutralized in a single afternoon by a coalition she never saw coming: a broken father, an awakened daughter, and a ruthless corporate strategist.

“You will regret this,” Bella whispered, her voice trembling with restrained rage as she adjusted her designer handbag over her shoulder. “All of you. You’re destroying an empire for the sake of a spoiled child.”

Without waiting for a response, Bella turned on her heel, her emerald-green silk dress swishing sharply as she marched toward the frosted-glass doors. They slid open automatically, and she vanished down the hallway, her exit as dramatic and clinical as her entrance.

The office descended into a profound, breathless silence. Dr. Hayes immediately rushed forward, pressing his medical equipment back into service. “Mr. Conny, sit down right now. The adrenaline drop is going to hit you hard.”

Conny allowed himself to be guided back into the leather executive chair. He closed his eyes, his breathing heavy and ragged, but his face was serene for the first time in years. He looked across the desk at Sophia, who stood tall in her white corset and chain belt, her tears finally drying in the sterile air of the glass cage.
