Chapter 12: The Reckoning

Vincent’s face contorted from shock into unhinged rage. He raised the gun, aiming directly at Julian’s forehead.

"It doesn't matter!" Vincent screamed over the storm. "Sight or no sight, you die tonight! The syndicate doesn't care how you go, as long as the estate transfers to me! Nobody will ever know what happened out here!"

"They already know," Julian said calmly.

From his jacket pocket, Julian pulled out a small tactical transmitter, its red LED pulsing steadily in the dark.

"Dr. Ramos gave the original toxicology report to the Federal Bureau of Investigation this afternoon," Julian said. "The financial files from your safe were uploaded to the state prosecutor three hours ago. And this beacon has been broadcasting our exact GPS coordinates and audio feed since you left the house."

High above the clouds, a powerful spotlight suddenly tore through the sea fog, pinning Vincent in a blinding column of white light.

The deafening roar of twin turboshaft engines drowned out the thunder. Two state police tactical helicopters descended from the cloud bank, hovering fifty feet above the cliffside.

*"Vincent Vance!"* a voice boomed over an external loudspeaker, echoing across the bay. *"Drop the weapon and step away from the ledge! You are surrounded!"*
