Chapter 15

The sun dipped low behind the western hills, casting long, elegant shadows across the school yard. Mark walked beside his daughter, his hands tucked into his jacket pockets, matching her steady pace step for step. There was no tension in the air, no hostile figures waiting in the shadows, and no oppressive weight of corruption hanging over their heads.
They reached the edge of the paved lot where their journey through this ordeal had truly started. Clara stopped the wheelchair, turning to look back at the brick facade of the school. The building looked different now—less like a battlefield and more like a place of growth, learning, and community.
"Remember when you thought we wouldn't survive the winter?" Clara asked softly, a gentle smile playing at the corners of her mouth.
Mark stopped beside her, looking out over the sprawling valley where the lights of homes were beginning to flicker on like distant stars. "I never doubted we'd survive, Clara. I just didn't know how strong we'd have to become to do it."

"We're exactly as strong as we need to be," Clara replied, her voice ringing with quiet, unshakable resolve.
Mark wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close in a warm, protective embrace. They turned together and began the walk back down Maple Street, their shadows stretching long and united behind them on the pavement. The wheelchair rolled smoothly, effortlessly, carrying Clara toward a future she had fought hard to secure—a future defined not by what they had lost, but by the unbreakable bond of love, courage, and truth that had brought them through the storm.
