Chapter 5 - The Ambush at the Corner

The screech of burning rubber tore through the quiet evening air, instantly shattering the tense standoff in the alleyway. Before Agent Miller could grab the manila envelope from Jax's outstretched hand, a sleek black sedan careened around the corner, its headlights blazing high and bright as it slammed to a halt right at the mouth of the alley.
Dust and gravel kicked up from the tires, coating the damp pavement in a gritty haze. The rear doors of the sedan flew open simultaneously, revealing two burly men wearing tactical vests and black balaclavas that obscured their faces entirely.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!" Miller bellowed, instantly abandoning the standoff with Jax as he drew his service pistol and aimed it directly at the newly arrived vehicle.
Chaos erupted in a fraction of a second. The masked men didn't surrender; instead, they raised heavy-duty suppressors attached to automatic rifles and opened fire, shattering the brickwork inches above Miller's head with a flurry of suppressive rounds.
"Get down!" Jax roared, lunging forward and sweeping eight-year-old Leo off his feet.
The biker tackled the boy to the ground, shielding Leo’s frail body completely beneath his massive, muscular frame as concrete shrapnel rained down around them from the pulverized wall.
Agent Miller and his partner returned fire, diving behind a nearby dumpster while shouting frantic codes into their shoulder radios.
"We're compromised! Sector four alleyway! Send immediate tactical backup!" Miller yelled over the deafening crack of gunfire.
Through the roaring chaos, one of the masked men stepped out of the sedan, shouting a chilling command over the din of battle.
"Get the boy! The boss wants him breathing, but nobody else matters!"
Hearing the words, Jax's blood ran cold. This wasn't a random cartel hit or a routine law enforcement raid; someone was actively hunting Leo, and they had tracked them down with terrifying precision. Jax looked down at the pale, terrified face of the eight-year-old boy pressed tightly against his chest. Leo was still clutching the small folded paper and the faded photograph in his tiny fists, refusing to let go of the only connections he had left to his past.
"Jax, I'm scared!" Leo cried out softly, tears streaming freely down his pale cheeks.
"Look at me, Leo," Jax commanded, his voice steady and absolute despite the bullets ricocheting off the pavement just feet away. "We are getting out of here. When I tell you to run, you run straight to the motorcycle, jump on the back, and hold on with everything you've got. Do you trust me?"
"I trust you!" Leo sobbed, nodding frantically.
Jax pulled a heavy, rusted iron pipe from a nearby construction pile with his left hand while keeping his right arm securely wrapped around the boy. With an explosive burst of adrenaline, the biker vaulted upward from the ground, swinging the iron bar with brutal force straight into the path of the nearest advancing gunman.
The heavy metal connected with the masked man’s chest with a sickening crunch, sending him crashing backward over the hood of the sedan.
"Move! Now!" Jax yelled, dragging Leo by the hand toward the idling cruiser hidden in the shadows.
They scrambled onto the massive motorcycle just as Miller fired a final suppressing volley from behind the dumpster, clearing their exit path. Jax twisted the throttle hard, the rear tire spinning out in a cloud of smoke before launching the bike down the narrow, dark side street.

As they sped away into the safety of the sprawling American highway system, Jax glanced down at his dashboard mirror to check for pursuers, only to see a small tracking device magnetically attached to his bike’s rear fender blinking with a steady, sinister red light.
