Chapter 1 - The Strike and the Summons

The fluorescent lights of Lincoln Elementary buzzed overhead, casting a harsh, sterile glow across the cluttered fourth-grade classroom. Eight-year-old Leo sat frozen at his desk, his small shoulders trembling as hot tears spilled down his pale cheeks. His messy light brown hair fell into his big, hopeful hazel eyes, which were fixed entirely on the worn wooden surface of his desktop. In his small, dirt-smudged hands, he nervously clutched a crumpled, small folded piece of paper, guarding it as if it were his last defense against the world. He wore an oversized, frayed jacket and heavily scuffed sneakers that had seen better days.
Standing directly above him, Mrs. Gable towering over the boy with her face flushed bright red from anger. Her thin lips were pursed into a hard, unforgiving line, and her eyes narrowed in absolute intolerance for what she perceived as disruptive insolence. She slammed her palm down hard on Leo’s desk, the sharp crack echoing loudly through the silent, terrified room of twenty other staring children.
"Hand out!" Mrs. Gable yelled, her voice dripping with venomous authority as she raised a heavy wooden ruler in the air.
"I didn't mean to ruin the project, Mrs. Gable! Please, don't hit me again!" Leo sobbed quietly, shrinking further back into his plastic chair while desperately clutching his jacket tighter around his thin chest.
"You ruin everything you touch, Leo! Rules are rules in this classroom, and your blatant disrespect for my authority ends today," Mrs. Gable snapped back, her voice rising in pitch as she grabbed his small wrist to force his palm upward. "Extend your hand right now before I double the punishment and call the front office to suspend you indefinitely!"
"Leave the kid alone, lady. You touch him again and you'll answer to me."
The deep, gravelly voice echoed from the doorway, cutting through the tense classroom atmosphere like a sharp blade. Every head whipped around toward the entrance. Standing in the doorway was Jax, a massive, towering forty-eight-year-old white man with long dark hair, a thick flowing beard, and arms entirely covered in intricate, faded ink tattoos. He wore a heavy leather vest over a black t-shirt, looking entirely out of place in the pristine school hallway.
Mrs. Gable dropped Leo’s wrist in sheer shock, her jaw dropping open as she stared at the intimidating biker standing in her classroom.
"Who on earth are you? You cannot just barge in here!" Mrs. Gable stammered, stepping back from Leo's desk.
Jax didn't answer her immediately. He slowly stepped past the terrified rows of desks, his heavy leather boots thudding rhythmically against the tiled floor. He walked straight up to Leo, knelt down on one knee to meet the boy's tear-filled hazel eyes, and gently placed a calloused, heavy hand on the boy's trembling shoulder.
"Hey there, kiddo," Jax whispered softly, his tough exterior instantly melting away. "I told you I'd find you."
Leo looked up, his expression shifting from pure terror to a fragile, glowing ray of hope. With trembling fingers, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out an old, faded photograph, holding it up for Jax to see. The photo showed a much younger, smiling version of the biker proudly holding a tiny newborn baby wrapped in a blue blanket.
"You kept your promise," Leo whispered, his voice cracking as he looked at the man.

Before Jax could reply, the blaring ring of the school emergency alarm suddenly pierced the air, plunging the entire hallway into total chaos.
