Chapter 13: The Archival Ledger
In late November, the Town of Sunapee dedicated *The Caleb Cole Memorial Community Hall*—a newly constructed timber-framed public library and conservation archive built on the town common.
The building had been designed and framed entirely by the guild apprentices, using timber harvested through sustainable thinning from the Cole trust forest.
During the opening ceremony, Justice Arthur Sterling presented the town council with the original 1894 boundary deeds and hand-drawn forestry surveys.
Inlaid into the central oak reading table was a simple bronze plaque:
*“The land does not belong to the paper that claims it.*
*It belongs to the honest hands that protect the water and shelter the light.”*
