Chapter 11: A True Home**

Within two months, the Sterling mansion in the gated hills was sold.
Julian used his financial acumen to partner with an ethical community investment firm, opening a small financial advisory practice that helped working-class families and small businesses manage their savings.
Victoria purchased a bright, sturdy two-story farmhouse on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by an acre of apple trees and open green grass. It was warm, unpretentious, and full of natural light.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon in early spring, Mary was officially discharged from the rehabilitation facility.
When the car pulled up the gravel driveway of the new house, Mary looked out the window in confusion. She was seated in the front, her walking cane resting against her knees.
"Vicky... where are we?" Mary asked, her voice stronger now, though her hands still trembled slightly. "Whose house is this?"
Victoria opened the passenger door and helped her mother step out onto the solid ground. Lily came running across the lawn, laughing, followed by a golden retriever puppy Julian had adopted the week before.
"This is our house, Mom," Victoria said, wrapping an arm securely around Mary’s waist. "And your room is on the first floor, right next to the garden."
Mary stood frozen, looking up at the porch with its wide wooden rocking chairs and hanging flower baskets. Tears filled her eyes. "Vicky... you gave up that beautiful mansion for this?"

"That wasn't a home, Mom," Victoria replied, kissing her mother’s gray hair. "It was a cage built out of vanity. This is where we belong. Together."
