Chapter 2

Miller stumbled backward, her hand instinctively twitching toward the heavy firearm strapped to her thigh. The shock paralyzed her vocal cords for a fraction of a second.
"Are you insane?" Miller finally managed to spit out, her face flushing crimson as she glared at her colleague. "I am responding to a suspicious person report in a high-security zone! Look at her! She doesn't belong here!"
The male officer didn't blink. His posture remained rigidly formal, yet radiated a chilling intensity. He reached down and slapped a pair of cold steel handcuffs against his utility belt, the sound ringing sharply in the quiet suburban street.
"You didn't check the active dispatch logs, Miller," the male officer said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "If you had bothered to look at your terminal instead of profiling based on an anonymous tip you solicited yourself, you would know District 4 suspended all routine stops on Maple Street thirty minutes ago."
The platinum-haired woman lowered her leather folder, revealing a seal stamped with the United States Department of Justice. She stepped back, giving the two officers room to theater their growing conflict.
"My name is Agent Sarah Vance," the woman said, her tone smooth and lethal. "And your little stunt just compromised an undercover federal sweep that has been in motion for fourteen months. You just blew a multi-agency operation."
Miller laughed nervously, shaking her head. "This is a prank. You're playing games. Call Captain Vance—wait, what?"
"My brother is Captain Vance," the male officer interjected, his dark eyes narrowing into slits. "And he’s the one who ordered me to tail you, Miller. Because we’ve been tracking internal leaks routing directly from your patrol car's GPS terminal to the syndicate living in the house three doors down."

The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Miller’s mouth opened to issue a furious denial, but the words caught in her throat as she saw the unmarked black SUV turning the corner at the end of the block, carrying Internal Affairs.
As the vehicle doors swung open, Miller realized she wasn't just losing an argument—she was staring down the barrel of a federal conspiracy.
