Chapter 13: An Unassailable Decree

On August 20, the United States District Court issued its final restitution order in *United States v. Sterling*.
Judge William Harrison awarded Tess Nolan $1.8 million in direct civil damages for assault, false imprisonment, and malicious prosecution, alongside a permanent federal protective order.
Furthermore, the court officially cleared her name from all municipal employment registries, issuing a formal judicial commendation for her courage in assisting the federal inquiry.
As Tess, Sebastian, and Leo walked down the historic marble steps of the courthouse into the bright summer sunshine, Agent Clara Higgins handed Tess the certified decree.
""You changed the culture of this entire state, Miss Nolan,"" Agent Higgins smiled warmly. ""Because of you, six other insurance fraud rings have been dismantled across New England.""
Tess held the document against her chest, looking up at the clear blue sky.
