The woman opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out; the realization that her double-cross had been completely exposed paralyzed her vocal cords. Without a word of wasted emotion, the man stepped back, releasing his grip just enough for her to stumble forward.
He raised his wrist, casting a final, emotionless glance down at his luxury wristwatch as the digital seconds ticked away.
“Time’s up,” he said coldly.
With a deafening mechanical groan, the heavy, multi-ton steel door of the walk-in vault began to swing shut automatically. The woman lunged forward in a desperate bid for freedom, screaming his name as the gap narrowed, but the sheer weight of the mechanism was unstoppable. With a final, crushing thud, the vault door sealed completely shut, cutting off every single ray of light and plunging her into absolute, inescapable darkness.
