Chapter 3 - The Federal Agents in the Foyer

The two towering bodyguards hauled Julian to his feet with effortless strength, his heavy, water-logged tuxedo dragging a dark trail across the pristine white marble. He thrashed weakly, his slicked-back hair falling across his eyes, but his resistance was entirely useless against men trained in elite security operations. They dragged him away from the ruined fountain, past the terrified gasps of the high-society guests, and straight toward the grand arched doorway leading into the sprawling mansion’s marble foyer.
As they crossed the threshold into the dimly lit entryway, the heavy oak front doors swung open with a resounding thud. Julian expected to be thrown out onto the gravel driveway into the pouring rain, but instead, he froze. Three men in sharp, charcoal-gray suits stepped purposefully into the foyer, their expressions grim and resolute. In the center stood a woman holding an open leather folio displaying a silver federal badge.
“Julian Vance?” the female agent asked, her voice sharp and commanding, cutting through the distant sound of ballroom music still echoing from within the house.
Julian stared at the badge, his breath catching in his throat. He looked back over his shoulder and saw Elena and Beatrice standing at the far end of the hallway, watching his utter ruin with chilling composure. Beatrice had orchestrated this down to the exact second. She hadn’t just caught him cheating; she had weaponized his corporate crimes against him, aligning his personal betrayal with federal jurisdiction before he even had a chance to delete his digital footprint.
“There’s been a mistake,” Julian lied frantically, his voice shaking as the bodyguards released their grip just enough for him to stumble forward. “I’m a corporate officer. I have legal counsel.”
“Not anymore you don’t,” the agent replied smoothly, pulling a pair of cold steel handcuffs from her belt. “You are under arrest for wire fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering involving interstate commerce. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”

The harsh reality of his situation crashed over Julian like a physical blow. The multi-million-dollar lifestyle, the secret penthouse, the designer clothes, and the corporate power he had ruthlessly clawed his way toward were all gone, replaced by the clinking sound of handcuffs locking tightly around his wrists.
