Chapter 13 - The Teterboro Terminal

The cold night air of Teterboro Airport hit Clara like a physical blow, snapping her nervous system out of the final lingering haze of the sedatives. She crouched behind a stack of aluminum cargo containers near Hangar 4, her breath pluming in white wisps against the tarmac lights that swept across the sprawling private aviation facility in slow, rhythmic arcs.
Sergeant Vance knelt beside her, handing her a dark tactical hoodie and a pair of heavy-duty binoculars. "The private Gulfstream bearing the Vance Global tail number is parked on Pad B. That’s Victor’s personal jet. Julian and the nanny brought the baby through customs twenty minutes ago under an expedited diplomatic cargo manifest."
Clara raised the binoculars to her eyes, adjusting the focus with trembling fingers. Through the magnification lenses, the sleek white-and-gold jet gleamed under the floodlights. At the foot of the retractable boarding stairs stood Julian Vance, wearing his immaculate charcoal suit, holding a white-wrapped bundle against his shoulder with casual, chilling indifference.
Beside him stood Mrs. Gable, carrying a leather briefcase that undoubtedly contained the encrypted drive with the final transfer codes for the Vance Global trust.
"They're moving him," Clara whispered, a cold, unyielding fire replacing the panic in her chest. "They're taking my son out of the country."
"We can't storm the tarmac, Miss Clara," Sergeant Vance warned, keeping a firm hand on her shoulder. "There are twelve armed private contractors patrolling the perimeter, and the local Port Authority police are already on Victor’s payroll. If we cross that open tarmac without leverage, we won't even make it to the stairs."
"I don't need leverage," Clara said, standing up from behind the cargo containers with a cold, absolute certainty in her eyes that made the seasoned veteran stare at her in sudden awe. "I have something better."
She pulled her smartphone from the pocket of the tactical hoodie—a secure satellite device Sergeant Vance had retrieved from the floor-two stairwell. She unlocked it with her biometric thumbprint, bypassing the corporate firewall that Julian had tried to install that morning, and dialed a direct, emergency override number that hadn't been used in ten years.
It wasn't a number for the police. It wasn't a number for the courts. It was the private, encrypted line to the Swiss Federal Banking Commission’s emergency liquidity vault—the only entity on earth with the legal authority to freeze every single corporate asset owned by Vance Global and Victor’s offshore shell companies simultaneously.
The phone rang twice before a crisp, synthesized voice answered: VANGUARD SECURE VAULT. STATE YOUR AUTHORIZATION CODE.
"Vance-Zero-One-Alpha," Clara said clearly, her voice steady and ringing with absolute command. "This is Clara Vance, primary beneficiary of the sovereign trust. I am invoking the emergency insolvency protocol under Article 9 of the Zurich Accords."
VERIFYING BIOMETRICS, the synthetic voice replied instantly. BIOMETRICS CONFIRMED. WELCOME BACK, MISS VANCE. WHAT IS YOUR DIRECTIVE?
"Freeze all active transactions, revoke all executive power transfers executed within the last twenty-four hours, and initiate an immediate global asset seizure on all accounts tied to Victor Vance and Julian Vance," Clara commanded, watching through the binoculars as Julian paused at the top of the jet stairs, his phone suddenly vibrating violently in his hand.
Across the tarmac, Julian pulled his phone from his pocket, staring down at the screen as every single smart-display on the Gulfstream’s control panel suddenly flashed red, cutting power to the engines and locking the cabin doors from the inside.

"Effective immediately," Clara whispered into the phone, her eyes locked on her cousin's panicked face across the tarmac. "And notify the Port Authority that the plane is grounded under federal warrant."
