The bridge was built entirely of native white pine and oak harvested through sustainable forest thinning, framed by David, Samuel, and the apprentice crew, and pinned with over one thousand hand-carved locust trunnels.
On a brilliant, crisp Saturday morning, five hundred citizens gathered at the riverbank for the dedication ceremony.
Catherine and David walked to the entrance of the bridge, holding hands with little Thomas and five-year-old Clara skipping between them.
Julianna stepped forward, holding a pair of bronze ceremonial shears.
She looked at Catherine, then at the cheering crowd of neighbors, apprentices, and families.
""The crossing is open, neighbors!"" Julianna announced, her clear voice ringing strong and true across the rushing water. ""Walk together in the light!""
