Chapter 15

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the evening sky in brilliant shades of violet and orange, casting a warm, golden glow through the kitchen windows. The sink was spotless, the faucet gleamed, and the house was filled with the soft, comforting sounds of a normal family winding down for the evening. The haunting tension that had once choked the air on that fateful afternoon had dissolved completely, replaced by an atmosphere of profound tranquility and unshakable trust.
Amy stood by the kitchen counter, pouring warm water into a bottle while the baby rested peacefully in Connor’s arms nearby. "The movers are coming early to help clear out the last of the storage boxes from the old estate downtown, and then we are officially closing that chapter for good."
Connor nodded, pressing a gentle kiss to Amy’s forehead before resting his cheek against hers. "Good. We don't need anything from that house anymore. We have everything we’ve ever needed right here."
The front door sat locked and bolted behind them, a secure barrier against the noise and manipulation of the outside world. They had dismantled an empire built on lies not with shouting or rage, but with quiet resolve, unwavering truth, and the courage to choose each other over the expectations of a tyrant. Helen’s legacy of control had crumbled into dust, leaving behind a blank canvas where a real family could finally take root and flourish.
