Chapter 9 - The Dark Bloodline

The revelation hit Sarah like a physical blow. The world seemed to stop spinning. She turned her gaze to Lily, sleeping peacefully in the passenger seat, clutching the small teddy bear with tiny, delicate fingers.
“No,” Sarah breathed, her voice trembling with horror. “Lily was born through a closed donor process when I was married to David... David passed away before she was born.”
“David thought it was a legitimate clinic,” Marcus said quietly, keeping his eyes on the dark highway ahead. “Arthur owned that medical fertility clinic ten years ago before it was shut down for unethical practices. He manipulated the donor records. He never cared about the children—until your mother’s will specifically stipulated that her five-million-dollar trust would revert entirely to Lily’s biological guardian if you ever became incapacitated.”
The horrifying puzzle pieces finally snapped together. Arthur’s relentless violence, Eleanor’s complicit cruelty, and Bianca’s betrayal were never about unpaid rent or sisterly rivalry. It was a calculated, predatory hunt for total control of a fortune, using Lily as their legal trophy.
“He tried to kill me at the house,” Sarah said, her voice dropping to a dangerous, steady calm. “He knew if I died before the hearing, custody would instantly transfer to him as the genetic claimant.”
“Exactly,” Marcus confirmed. “And right now, Bianca has just fled the diner. She slipped away before our tactical team breached the building. Clara is safe in custody, but Bianca took Arthur’s backup files.”

“Where did she go?”
“To the medical center where Lily’s donor records are physically archived,” Marcus answered, pressing the accelerator down. “She’s going to burn them.”
