Chapter 5

The grand lobby of the Val Grand Hotel—still bearing the pathetic "SOLA MOTEL" sign over its reinforced glass doors as a mocking reminder of Elena’s administrative vandalism—fell into a profound, heavy silence. The gala guests had completely vanished, leaving behind only scattered champagne flutes, a dropped silk handkerchief, and the overwhelming scent of expensive perfume hanging uselessly in the air. The two private security guards stood motionless near the pillars, their professional detachment masking a quiet curiosity.

Elena Vance stood frozen, her chest heaving beneath the black cut-out cocktail dress. The diamond bracelets on her wrists felt heavy and obscene, like iron shackles rather than symbols of status. She refused to look at Julian, refusing to acknowledge the pathetic slump in his shoulders. Her mind raced frantically, searching for a legal loophole, a corrupt judge, a hidden offshore account that Claire’s sudden resurrection hadn't managed to freeze. But she knew deep down that the net had closed. The documents in Julian’s hands were bulletproof, gathered with the patient, methodical precision of someone who had spent two decades watching from the dark.

"You think you’ve won everything," Elena spat out, her voice cracking with a sudden spike of desperate defiance. She stepped closer to Claire, ignoring the warning glare of the guards. "You think you can just walk in here with a handful of dusty paper and claim a billion-dollar enterprise? This hotel is registered under a shell corporation. The liabilities alone would crush you in a week. You don't know the first thing about managing real estate of this scale, Claire. You’re a ghost playing dress-up in borrowed clothes."

Claire did not blink. She met Elena’s fury with an unshakeable, terrifying calm. She reached out, her manicured fingers gently brushing the surface of the leather folder still clutched in Julian’s paralyzed hands. "You spent twenty years believing that stealing my inheritance made you smart, Elena," Claire said, her voice low and steady. "You thought that by changing the names on the deeds and burying my father’s legacy beneath modern renovations, you could erase the bloodline. But a foundation built on fraud can never truly support weight. It always collapses from the inside out."

Julian swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing. He looked down at the gold-embossed seal one last time before slowly extending his arms, offering the folder back to its rightful owner. He had spent fifty years tying his identity to wealth that wasn't his, dancing to a tune dictated by Elena’s bottomless greed. Now, looking at the young woman standing before them, he felt a strange, hollow sense of liberation. The illusion was over.
