Chapter 6: The Garden of Healing

To help Maya regain her confidence, Arthur rented a cottage with a large private garden on the outskirts of the city. He wanted her to have a positive relationship with the outdoors again—far away from driveways and cold hoses.

One sunny afternoon, Arthur found Maya sitting in the grass near a patch of yellow sunflowers. She was holding a small watering can, gently pouring water onto the soil.

""You're not scared of the water anymore?"" Arthur asked softly, sitting beside her on the grass.

Maya shook her head. ""Water makes flowers grow,"" she said thoughtfully. ""Aunt Evelyn used it like a punishment. But it isn't bad on its own. It depends on who is holding the hose.""

Arthur stared at his niece, amazed by her resilience. ""You're wise beyond your years, Maya.""

""I just want to grow, Uncle Artie,"" she smiled.
