Chapter 10: The Video Plays

Before Superintendent Harris could strike his gavel or issue a command to cut the power, the large projector screen mounted behind the dais flickered to life. The high-definition hallway footage from Room 204 began to play across the entire wall for everyone in the room to see.
The crystal-clear audio filled the auditorium: the sharp sound of Marcus shoving Clara, the crash of the blue-cased tablet hitting the linoleum, and the unmistakable, authoritative voice of Mrs. Gable stating, "You think anyone believes you? You're nothing."
The silence in the auditorium was absolute, heavy, and suffocating.
Superintendent Harris stared at the screen in open shock, his mouth slightly parted. To his left, the board secretary gasped softly, covering her mouth with her hand. In the front row, the color drained completely from Mrs. Gable’s face. She turned her head sharply, refusing to look at the screen as her professional reputation crumbled into dust in thirty seconds of digital video.
Marcus’s father leaped out of his seat in the front row, his face turning a deep, furious crimson. "This is a malicious fabrication! It's tampered digital garbage!" he shouted, pointing an accusing finger at the podium. "The girl should be expelled immediately for defamation!"
"Order! Order in the room!" Superintendent Harris finally recovered his voice, striking his gavel repeatedly against the wooden block. He turned his gaze from the screen down to Mrs. Gable, who sat frozen in her seat, unable to offer a single word in her defense.
Clara stood firmly behind the podium, her hands resting flat on the wooden surface. She didn't flinch or look away as Marcus’s father continued his loud protests. She simply waited, letting the undeniable reality of the evidence wash over the entire room.
Mr. Harrison, the reporter from the County Gazette, was furiously taking notes in the second row, his camera flash going off as he captured the expressions of the board members in real-time. The institutional wall that had protected bullies and negligent educators for years had just been cracked wide open, and there was no way to glue the pieces back together.
Superintendent Harris turned back to the microphone, his face pale and strained. "Ms. Evans... please take your seat. The board... the board will take this matter under immediate advisement. An emergency session of the district ethics committee will be convened tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM."

"Thank you, Mr. Superintendent," Clara said clearly into the microphone.
She unplugged her flash drive, slipped it back into her pocket, and walked back down the aisle with her head held high. As she passed Mrs. Gable, the older teacher didn't dare raise her eyes. The power dynamic had completely inverted, and for the first time in her high school career, Clara felt entirely safe.
