Chapter 4: Breaking the Silence

The corporate board room of Vance Enterprises smelled of polished mahogany, expensive espresso, and quiet intimidation. The heavy glass doors bore the family crest etched into the center, a constant reminder of who held the ultimate power in this building. Daniel walked in wearing a freshly pressed charcoal suit, his head held high, flanked by Sarah Lin and a corporate litigation attorney named Robert Thorne. They took their seats at the far end of the long conference table just as Margaret Vance walked in, escorted by Marcus.

Margaret wore an impeccably tailored emerald green suit, her blonde hair pinned into its customary, flawless updo. She didn't look like a woman facing potential financial ruin; she looked like a queen surveying rebellious vassals. She took her seat at the head of the table, resting her manicured hands neatly on the polished wood before casting a cold, dismissive glance at Daniel.

"I see you brought guests, Daniel," Margaret said, her voice dripping with calculated condescension. "Are you finally here to apologize for your wife’s insolence, or have you come to beg for your monthly operational stipend to be reinstated?"

Daniel didn't flinch. He opened his leather portfolio, sliding a certified copy of the forensic audit report across the table toward his mother. The thick document stopped right in front of her pristine water glass.

"We aren't here to beg, Mother," Daniel said, his voice ringing clear and steady across the silent room. "We are here to serve notice. Effective immediately, the forensic audit conducted by Lin Financial Group has uncovered systematic unauthorized asset transfers totaling over twelve million dollars from the corporate holding accounts to your private wealth portfolios."

Marcus stepped forward, his face pale, opening his mouth to speak, but Robert Thorne raised a single hand, cutting him off before a sound could escape.

"Mr. Holloway, I advise you to remain silent," Thorne said calmly. "Our firm has already filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and asset freeze with the federal district court. Every account linked to these unauthorized transactions is currently under judicial review."

For the first time since Daniel had known her, the carefully constructed mask of absolute invulnerability slipped from Margaret’s face. Her eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, and the color drained slightly from her cheeks. She looked past Daniel, her gaze fixing on Marcus with a silent, blistering fury that demanded an immediate explanation for how this breach had occurred under his watch.

"You think you can destroy what I built?" Margaret whispered, her voice trembling slightly with suppressed rage. "You are nothing without this family, Daniel. I gave you your name, your position, and your entire livelihood."

"No," Daniel replied, standing up from his chair and buttoning his jacket. "You gave us a cage. And we’re done rattling the bars."
