Chapter 10: The Proxy Trap

The conference room of the manufacturing client was tense, filled with nervous executives who were watching their stock value fluctuate wildly on the wall monitors. Arthur Sterling sat at the head of the table—a tall, silver-haired man with cold blue eyes and an expensive bespoke suit that shouted old-money dominance. He looked around the room with an expression of polite condescension, leaning heavily on a silver-headed cane.
"Gentlemen, let’s be entirely pragmatic," Sterling said smoothly, his voice carrying the practiced cadence of a seasoned corporate raider. "Your current advisory firm, Vance & Vance Consulting, is embroiled in messy family litigation with the matriarch of the Vance estate. Partnering with them is financial suicide. My investment group is prepared to buy out your outstanding debt immediately, provided you terminate your contract with Daniel and Elena Vance by the end of the day."
The chief executive of the manufacturing firm, a nervous middle-aged man named Henderson, looked toward the doorway where Daniel, Elena, and Sarah Lin had just walked in uninvited.
"Mr. Sterling," Daniel said clearly, his voice cutting through the heavy air of the boardroom as he strode toward the table. "You forgot to mention one crucial detail to these gentlemen. The capital reserves you’re using to fund this hostile buyout are currently flagged under federal subpoena as derivative assets of the Vance family holding trust."
Sterling’s composure cracked for a fraction of a second, his cold eyes narrowing as he turned to face Daniel. "You speak with a great deal of arrogance for a disgraced heir, young man. I have legal authorization from the primary trust holders to deploy these capital reserves as I see fit."
"Not anymore," Sarah Lin interjected smoothly, opening her tablet and casting a live digital document onto the wall screen behind Sterling. "As of two hours ago, the federal district court granted an expanded asset freeze on all secondary proxy accounts linked to Arthur Sterling and associated shell corporations. Your capital lines are frozen, Mr. Sterling. The wire transfers won't clear."
The room erupted into sudden murmurs as the manufacturing executives stared at the court injunction displayed on the screen. Henderson wiped his forehead with a handkerchief, realizing he had almost walked directly into a federal trap disguised as a corporate bailout.
Sterling stood up slowly, leaning heavily on his cane, his face flushing with suppressed rage. He gathered his leather folder with trembling fingers, casting a venomous glare at Daniel and Elena. "This isn't over," Sterling hissed quietly as he walked past them toward the exit. "Margaret will never let you win. You are fighting an empire with a toothpick."

"Empires built on fear always collapse from the inside," Elena replied calmly, her gaze steady and unyielding.
As Sterling slammed the boardroom door behind him, the tension in the room dissipated, replaced by a profound sense of relief. The proxy trap had failed, and Daniel and Elena had proven that their new foundation was strong enough to withstand even the most experienced corporate predators.
