Chapter 6: The Unraveling

The mention of the SEC and offshore accounts wiped the remaining color from Marcus’s face. He took a half-step backward, his eyes darting between Julian and the young boy who had just dismantled his corporate coup in a single sentence. Marcus had always viewed Leo as a quiet, background fixture in his brother’s life—a polite prop in family portraits. He had never imagined that the ten-year-old was the true architect of the household’s defense system.

“You’re bluffing,” Marcus muttered, though his voice lacked conviction. He straightened his tie with a nervous twitch of his fingers. “A ten-year-old doesn't compile forensic financial audits. You’re being used, Julian. You’re letting a child cover for your own catastrophic failure to secure the succession.”

Julian stepped around the dining table, closing the physical distance between himself and his brother until they were eye-to-eye. The physical resemblance between the two men was striking, but Julian’s presence was anchored by a quiet, devastating fury, while Marcus radiated desperate panic.

“Everything Leo just showed you is backed by independent server logs from our private network,” Julian said, his voice dangerously low. “The same network that records every conversation in this building, Marcus. Including the one you had with our chief financial officer last Tuesday about liquidating the secondary accounts.”

Marcus swallowed hard, his bravado evaporating entirely. He realized he had walked directly into a well-laid trap, orchestrated not just by Julian, but by the quiet boy standing by the window. The corporate takeover he had plotted for over a year had collapsed under the weight of digital evidence and unexpected vigilance.

“What do you want?” Marcus asked, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper.

“I want your resignation from the board by noon,” Julian replied without hesitation. “You will hand over your shares at market value, and you will leave Chicago before sunset. If you contest this, Leo’s files go to federal investigators before the stock market opens.”

Marcus looked at Elena, still huddled in her red robe across the room, then back at Julian’s unyielding gaze. He knew when he was beaten. Without a word, he turned on his heel and strode toward the elevator, the doors sliding shut behind him with a soft, final chime.
