Chapter 5: The Corporate Vultures

Morning arrived with a sharp, biting wind that rattled the reinforced glass of the penthouse balcony. Julian sat at the dining table, a secure satellite phone resting beside his untouched cup of black coffee. Across from him, Leo was quietly working on a laptop, compiling the timestamped video files into an encrypted cloud folder for the corporate legal team. The front door chimed precisely at eight o'clock, signaling the arrival of Marcus Vance, Julian’s younger brother and the minority stakeholder whose ambition was as sharp as a razor.
Marcus strode into the dining room without waiting to be announced, wearing a tailored charcoal suit and a confident, predatory smirk. His eyes flicked immediately to Elena, who sat in the far corner of the living area, still draped in her red satin robe, looking pale and defeated.
“I hear there’s been a bit of a family emergency, Julian,” Marcus began, his voice dripping with false sympathy. “The board received an anonymous tip last night about the upcoming heir stipulation. They’re asking questions. If there’s no baby by midnight tonight, the merger falls through, and my investor group takes operational control of the firm.”
Julian did not flinch. He stood up slowly, adjusting his cuffs with deliberate composure. He looked at his brother with a coldness that made Marcus’s smirk falter slightly.
“There is no baby, Marcus,” Julian said clearly, his voice echoing in the grand room. “There never was one. Elena fabricated the entire pregnancy using synthetic prosthetics and forged medical documents.”
Marcus blinked, stunned into silence for a fraction of a second before a slow, triumphant grin spread across his face. “Well, well, well. Architectural genius Julian Vance, beaten by his own trophy wife. What a glorious headline for the financial journals. That means the board clause activates immediately. The company is mine.”
“Not quite,” Leo spoke up from the dining table, his voice cutting through the heavy air with surprising authority. The boy turned his laptop around, displaying a series of financial audit logs. “Under corporate bylaws section fourteen, paragraph three, fraud committed by an immediate household member to intentionally alter governance stakes invalidates the inheritance timeline entirely, rolling the decision period back by six months to allow for a forensic audit.”
Marcus stared at the ten-year-old boy, his expression twisting from triumph to disbelief. “What are you talking about, kid? You don't know anything about corporate law.”

“I read the bylaws while you were busy trying to siphon off company assets into your offshore accounts last quarter, Uncle Marcus,” Leo replied calmly, tapping the screen. “I have the paper trail right here. Do you want me to send it to the SEC along with Mom’s fake ultrasound files?”
