Chapter 13

The morning sun filtered through the kitchen windows, casting a warm, golden glow across the white tile floor. The house was calm, filled with the comforting sounds of morning routine—the soft bubbling of the coffee maker and the faint cooing of the baby down the hall.
Mark stood by the counter, wearing his favorite plaid shirt, pouring fresh coffee into two mugs. He handed one to Sarah, who sat at the table looking significantly more rested than she had the night before. The dark circles under her eyes were still visible, but the paralyzing fear that had gripped her was completely gone.
"The federal agents are arriving at ten," Mark said quietly, taking a sip of his coffee. "Deputy Miller coordinated the handoff. We're going to give them the encrypted drive, and they're going to open a full-scale investigation into the corporation."
Sarah nodded, taking a deep breath. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, black USB drive—the very object that had caused so much turmoil, yet held the key to their ultimate freedom. "It's time," she whispered.
Just then, the sound of tiny footsteps echoed down the hallway. Louis walked into the kitchen, rubbing her sleepy eyes, wearing a clean shirt and her blonde hair neatly brushed into pigtails. She stopped in the doorway, looking around the kitchen as if checking to make sure everything was normal.
"Morning, sweetie," Mark said with a warm smile, walking over to pick Louis up and swinging her gently into the air before setting her down on a chair at the table.
"Morning, Daddy. Morning, Mommy," Louis said softly. She looked between them, sensing the subtle shift in the air. "Are the bad men gone?"
Sarah knelt beside Louis’s chair, taking her small hands in her own. "Yes, sweetie. The bad men are gone, and they're never coming back. Mommy made a mistake a long time ago by trying to hide, but today, we're fixing it."
Louis blinked, processing her mother's words with the quiet maturity children often possess. She leaned forward and hugged Sarah tightly. "I love you, Mommy."

"I love you too, Louis. More than you'll ever know," Sarah replied, holding her daughter close.
Mark watched them, feeling an overwhelming wave of peace settle over his heart. The storm had finally broken, leaving behind clear skies and a strong, unbroken family ready to face whatever lay ahead.
