Chapter 3

The realization of absolute financial ruin hit Julian like a physical blow, far worse than any push into an armchair. He dropped his phone, the expensive device clattering uselessly against the expensive Persian rug. His hands hovered in the air for a brief moment before curling into helpless fists at his sides. Clara stepped back, her maroon dress rustling softly as she tried to physically distance herself from the sinking ship that Julian had so disastrously captained. She looked at Julian not with love or loyalty, but with cold, calculating disgust, realizing instantly that a broke man had no further use for her ambitions.

"Julian," Clara murmured, her voice laced with sharp venom. "What is the meaning of this? You told me her shares were worthless."

Julian didn't answer her. He couldn't. His mind was racing through margins, collateral calls, and defaulted loans that were suddenly falling due all at once. The corporate empire he thought he had seized from Eleanor was nothing more than an elaborate shell game backed by toxic debt that she had quietly transferred to his personal holding entity three weeks prior.

Marcus Thorne stepped forward, holding a thick leather-bound folder containing the eviction warrants and asset seizure notices. He handed a copy directly to Julian, who stared at the signature line as if it were written in ancient hieroglyphics.

"The deed to this penthouse, along with your primary residence in the Hamptons and your fleet of vehicles, are registered under the primary trust controlled exclusively by Ms. Vance," Marcus stated monotonously, treating the eviction like a routine weather report. "You have exactly twenty minutes to gather your personal belongings before the security detail escorts you both to the service elevator."

Julian looked up from the paper, his face twisted in a mixture of rage and utter humiliation. He turned to Eleanor, his lips trembling. "Please, Eleanor. We can talk about this. Let's be reasonable. Partners again. Just like old times."

May you like

Eleanor tilted her head slightly, her gaze piercing. The faint trace of blood on her lip had dried into a dark crust, accentuating her fierce expression. "Partnership requires trust, Julian. You chose betrayal. Now you get the consequence."

Clara didn't wait for further conversation. She grabbed her designer handbag from the console table, shooting Julian one last look of absolute contempt before turning toward the double doors. Two private security guards, summoned silently by Marcus, blocked her path, gesturing firmly toward the service corridor. Clara gasped in indignation, but the guards did not budge an inch. They were professionals who answered only to the 100% shareholder.
