Chapter 12 - Shattered Trust

The metallic crash of the tackle echoed off the curved iron walls of the grain silo like a thunderclap. Daniel rolled instantly to his feet, driving a swift, devastating kick into the jaw of the first mercenary, sending the man crashing backward into a stack of rusted metal drums.

The second guard reacted with terrifying speed, raising his suppressed pistol and firing a rapid succession of bullets that chewed through the sheet metal inches from Daniel’s head.

"Daddy!" Lily screamed in sheer terror, her voice cracking as she struggled against the thick zip-ties binding her wrists to the wooden chair.

"Hold on, Lily! Close your eyes!" Daniel shouted back, dropping into a tactical slide and sweeping the second guard's legs out from under him with a vicious kick.

As the guard hit the metal grating, Daniel slammed the heavy butt of his tactical flashlight down onto the man's temple, rendering him instantly unconscious. The silo fell dead silent once again, save for the heavy panting of Daniel’s breath and Lily’s soft, trembling sobs.

Daniel sprinted across the platform, falling to his knees beside his daughter. His hands shook violently as he pulled his tactical knife from his boot, carefully slicing through the thick plastic zip-ties biting into her delicate wrists.

"You're safe now, baby. I've got you," Daniel whispered fiercely, wrapping his arms around her trembling frame and pulling her tight against his chest.
