Chapter 12: The Collapse of Authority

Harrison Vance’s face drained of its practiced color, though his eyes remained hard and calculating behind his wire-rimmed glasses. He gripped the edges of the wooden podium so tightly his knuckles turned white.
“Mr. Sterling is indulging in baseless, sensationalized speculation,” Harrison announced, his voice carrying a dangerous edge of forced authority. “Security, please escort Mr. Sterling from the auditorium.”
Before the two uniformed private security guards stationed near the side exits could take a step forward, Elena stood up beside Arthur. She didn't shout; her tone was quiet, glacial, and utterly devastating.
“They won't be escorting anyone out, Father,” Elena said, walking past Arthur to take her place beside him in the center aisle. She lifted a small tablet device, connecting it instantly to the auditorium’s main presentation feed via the wireless remote in her hand.
With a single tap of her finger, the corporate growth charts on the giant LED screens behind Harrison vanished, replaced instantly by digitized bank statements, Cayman Island shell corporation registry documents, and the scanned audit reports of Ian’s medical trust.
“Every document on this screen,” Elena continued, her voice echoing off the glass and steel walls, “details the systematic embezzlement of corporate funds and charitable endowments orchestrated by the CEO over the past decade. Furthermore, it documents the coerced consolidation of independent startups, including the fraudulent asset seizure of Lucas Thorne’s technology firm.”
Total, stunned silence descended upon the auditorium. Institutional investors leaned forward, their eyes darting from the incriminating financial trails on the screen to Harrison Vance’s rigid, paralyzed posture at the podium.
Harrison slammed his hand down on the wooden podium. “This is a malicious fabrication! Cut the feed immediately!” he commanded the audio-visual technician stationed in the back booth.
From the gallery, Lucas stood up, holding his own tablet aloft. “The technical override has already been routed through independent servers, Mr. Vance. The SEC and federal compliance divisions received automated copies of these exact encrypted files at 8:59 AM this morning. You’re not dealing with a boardroom dispute anymore. You’re looking at a federal investigation.”

The murmur in the room exploded into a deafening wave of overlapping shouts, urgent whispers, and camera shutters. Board members began frantically whispering among themselves, distancing themselves from the CEO with calculated speed.
Harrison Vance looked out over the fractured assembly, realizing with terrifying clarity that his empire had just dissolved into ash. He turned slowly, abandoning the podium, and walked off the stage through the side exit without uttering another word.
