Chapter 13

The tinny, unmistakable sound of Vivienne’s voice whispering cold threats echoed off the stone walls of the corridor, followed instantly by the brutal audio of the struggle and Clara’s desperate screams. As the playback continued, the immaculate smile slowly vanished from Vivienne’s face, replaced by a mask of cold, calculating fury. The facade of the innocent, fragile bride evaporated completely. She dropped all pretense, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits as she stared at her new husband with pure, unfiltered contempt.

"You absolute fool, Julian," Vivienne spat, her voice losing all its sweet modulation and dropping into a harsh, venomous register. "You think a little audio file ruins me? I own the contracts, I own the board seats, and your family's entire portfolio is leveraged against my acquisitions. Expose me, and you bring your entire dynasty crashing down right along with me." Julian did not flinch. He held his ground, the weight of the realization giving him a strange, unbreakable strength. "My family can rebuild wealth, Vivienne. But we don't shelter murderers."

From the shadows behind the archway, Arthur and Clara stepped out into the corridor. Clara wore her torn pink dress with quiet dignity, her bruised wrist wrapped in a clean bandage, her gaze steady and unyielding as she locked eyes with the woman who had tried to end her life. Vivienne’s gaze darted to Clara, a flash of pure murderous rage crossing her features before she mastered herself once more. "You cockroach," Vivienne hissed, taking a sharp step forward, instinctually reaching for the hidden tactical blade she always kept concealed within the heavy folds of her crinoline.

Before Vivienne could complete the movement, heavy footsteps echoed from the main entrance hall. Two local police detectives in plain clothes, accompanied by uniformed officers carrying a signed federal warrant, swept into the corridor, their badges gleaming sharply in the golden light. Marcus was handcuffed between two officers trailing behind them, his defiant expression completely broken. Vivienne froze, her hand hovering near her waist as she realized the trap had closed permanently around her. There were no more escape routes, no hidden servers to scrub, and no social maneuvers left to play.
