Chapter 11

Julian pressed the phone to his ear, staring out into the dark expanse of the manicured gardens as the audio file began to play. The silence of the veranda amplified every harsh sound: the sharp rustle of heavy silk, the cold, calculated cadence of Vivienne’s voice threatening Clara with total professional ruin, followed instantly by the terrifying scuffle, the desperate friction of heels against stone, and Clara’s choked, genuine scream of terror as she was hurled backward down the stairs. The audio was pristine, unalterable, and damningly intimate.
The blood drained entirely from Julian’s face. He clutched the stone balustrade with his free hand, his knuckles turning white as the horror of what he was hearing settled deep into his bones. The woman he had married—the radiant, charitable figure adored by society columns—was a ruthless sociopath who had engineered a calculated murder attempt under the very roof of the church that united them. Every romantic memory, every shared smile, and every intimate promise instantly curdled into a terrifying lie. Julian felt sick to his stomach, the champagne turning to ash in his mouth.
"She has an entire network of staff covering her tracks," Arthur’s voice continued calmly through the earpiece, guiding Julian through the shock. "Marcus tried to keep Ms. Hayes locked in the sub-cellar to prevent this exact conversation. We have the physical evidence, the security logs, and the raw audio backed up off-site. But Vivienne is currently heading toward the east wing to scrub the local drives." Julian closed his eyes for a long moment, taking a deep, shuddering breath to steady his racing pulse. The illusion of his perfect life had shattered into a thousand jagged pieces, but the instinct to protect himself and uncover the full truth took over.

"Where are you now?" Julian asked, his voice cold and resolute, stripped of all hesitation. "We’re in the server closet behind the catering staging area," Arthur replied. "We need you to maintain your composure, Julian. Walk back inside, act like nothing is wrong, and draw Vivienne away from the grand hall so we can lock down the master console physically." Julian opened his eyes, staring at his own reflection in the dark glass of the veranda door. The naive groom was gone; in his place stood a man prepared to dismantle an empire of deceit from the inside out.
