Chapter 1 - The Severed Ribbon

The harsh sunlight of the suburban living room beat down mercilessly against the pristine hardwood floors, casting long, stark shadows across the expensive rug. Arthur knelt on the floor, his professional blue suit feeling suddenly constricting against his chest, his jaw tightly clenched. In his right hand, a pair of bright red scissors hovered dangerously close to his daughter's wrist. Lily sat completely paralyzed, her young face pale and her dark hair tangled messily around her shoulders, restrained by a tight, thick hair tie that had obviously been wrapped around her skin for hours.

"Don't worry my love," Arthur whispered softly, his voice trembling despite his desperate attempt to remain a rock of stability for his terrified child. The metallic snip of the red scissors echoed through the quiet house, severing the elastic band and freeing Lily's bruised wrist.

Across the room, Clara stood in her crisp green blouse and black pants, her expression entirely deadpan, showing zero remorse. Beside her, Martha, the older woman with her grey hair tied in a neat bun, slowly lowered her smartphone, having just finished recording the horrifying ordeal with chilling indifference.

Arthur stood up smoothly, lifting the weeping girl into his arms and holding her tight against his beating heart. Lily buried her face into his shoulder, her tiny frame shaking uncontrollably as she gasped for breath.

"Dad, they play this game with me every single day you go to the office," Lily sobbed tearfully into the fabric of his suit jacket, her words cutting through Arthur's soul like a sharp blade.

Arthur’s face turned grim and utterly angry, holding back years of deep tension that instantly morphed into pure, unadulterated paternal fury. He locked eyes with the two women who had been hired to protect his child while he built a future for them. Without breaking eye contact, Arthur pulled his smartphone from his pocket with his free hand, glaring intensely at Clara and Martha as they stood unfazed by his reaction.

"Send officers right now! They are torturing my little girl!" Arthur shouted furiously into the receiver, his voice cracking with raw adrenaline and protective rage.

He held Lily tighter, the intense emotional drama filling the room as police sirens suddenly wailed in the distance, growing louder by the exact second. Clara smirked, taking a slow step toward the front door.

"You're too late, Arthur," Clara whispered coldly. "Check your office laptop before you blame us."
