Chapter 1

The crystal chandelier cast fractured prisms of light across the mahogany table of the grand hotel dining room. It was an elite charity gala filled with wealthy patrons draped in designer evening wear, laughing over champagne and expensive delicacies. Amidst this shimmering sea of privilege stood Leo, an eight-year-old Caucasian boy with pale skin, messy light brown hair, and big hopeful hazel eyes. He wore an oversized, worn-out jacket and scuffed sneakers that clashed sharply with the opulent surroundings. In his small trembling hand, he clutched a crumpled old photograph alongside a small folded piece of paper. He had slipped past security through the service corridors, driven by a desperate mission that defied his tender age.

Leo approached a tall man wearing a sharp black tuxedo suit who was just about to lift a silver fork toward a gourmet appetizer. Standing close to the edge of the polished wooden table, the boy looked up with intense, earnest determination.

"Sir, don't eat that food," Leo said softly, his voice trembling slightly in the cavernous room.

The man in the tuxedo, Jax—a forty-eight-year-old hardened biker disguised in formal wear for the fundraiser—stopped mid-motion. Jax had long dark hair and a thick beard, trying desperately to maintain his tough exterior despite the strange intrusion. He looked down at the boy with a serious, intense expression, annoyed by the interruption.

"What are you doing, kid? Let go of me," Jax replied, pulling his arm back slightly as Leo gently brushed against his sleeve to stop him from taking a bite.

Nearby, an elegant woman in a black evening gown adorned with sparkling diamond jewelry paused her conversation. She listened with an amused smile, looking down at the strange spectacle unfolding beside them.

"This boy must be crazy," the woman remarked, drawing a few chuckles from the surrounding guests who viewed the scene as mere eccentric entertainment.

Ignoring the onlookers, Leo looked straight into Jax’s eyes and placed the folded paper gently on the edge of the table. Jax glanced down at the paper, then back at the boy. Slowly, curiosity pierced through his defensive armor. He unfolded the note, his eyes widening in sudden, profound shock and total realization. The silver fork slipped from his fingers, clattering loudly against the fine china plate.
