With Claire removed, the massive room felt strangely empty. Mr. Whitford sat back down, staring blankly at the untouched dinner on his plate. He realized how blind he had been, prioritizing high-society appearances over the integrity of his own home. He looked up at Sarah and young Lily, seeing the fear still lingering in the little girl's eyes. Whitford felt a heavy pang of guilt for allowing an environment where honest, working people were treated as expendable scapegoats.
