Chapter 1

The sterile white walls of St. Jude Memorial Hospital hummed with the monotonous drone of heart monitors and intravenous pumps. Liam stood over the adjustable metal bed, his knuckles turning stark white as he gripped the guardrail. His breath came in ragged, uneven gasps, his chest heaving beneath his tight blue v-neck shirt. Across the small room, Eleanor, draped in a sharp, impeccably tailored purple suit, adjusted her pearl necklace with hands that did not tremble. Her expression remained chillingly composed, a stark contrast to the absolute chaos threatening to tear the room apart.
In the center of the bed lay his nine-year-old daughter, Chloe, her small frame swallowed by a coarse pink hospital gown. Her cheeks were stained crimson from relentless crying, thick tears continuing to track through the dust on her face as she clutched her bruised left arm.
“Step away from my daughter!” Liam roared, his voice cracking with a raw, primal fury that shook the ceiling tiles. He lunged forward, his muscular frame coiling like a struck spring, ready to tear Eleanor apart with his bare hands.
Before Liam could reach her, Eleanor stepped into his path with shocking agility and aggressively shoved him backward.
“You pathetic fool,” Eleanor hissed, her voice cutting through the clinical silence like a razor blade. “You think your pathetic outbursts can fix what is broken? You brought this destruction straight to her door.”
Blind with rage, Liam grabbed Eleanor’s arm and violently shoved her back. The older woman crashed hard against the drywall near the blaring medical monitors, knocking a tray of surgical instruments clattering to the linoleum floor.
“You will never touch my daughter again!” Liam screamed, his face inches from hers, veins bulging visibly at his temples.
The heavy pneumatic door hissed open as two uniformed police officers burst into the suffocating space. The female officer held up a transparent plastic evidence bag containing a set of heavy, bloodstained metal cuffs.

“We found this in your car, Liam,” the officer said grimly.
Liam’s phone vibrated violently against his thigh, the screen flashing an incoming restricted call.
