Chapter 12

With the exhibition successfully behind them, Clara and Arthur turned their full attention to the future of Eleanor Vance Designs. The upcoming Zenith Tower construction project was slated to break ground in the spring, representing the largest and most ambitious undertaking in the firm’s history.
One afternoon, they sat in the light-filled studio on the third floor of the estate, reviewing the final structural blueprints spread across the drafting table. The room no longer felt like a vault of secrets; it was vibrant, filled with natural light and the hum of creative energy.
"The engineering team in Zurich approved the foundation load calculations," Arthur said, pointing to a highlighted section of the blueprint. "They agreed with your modification to the steel-reinforced core. It makes the building significantly more resilient to seismic activity."
"Mother always said safety must never be compromised for aesthetic gain," Clara replied, tracing her finger along the margin notes written in Eleanor’s handwriting. "I’m glad we kept her core structural integrity intact."
Arthur leaned against the drafting table, looking at her with a quiet admiration. "You know, Clara, when I first watched you stand up to Tamara in this very room, I knew your mother’s legacy was in the right hands. But watching you lead the firm over the past six months... you’ve truly surpassed even her expectations."
Clara looked up, meeting his gaze. The professional respect between them had deepened into something far more personal and profound. "I couldn't have navigated any of this without your unwavering support, Arthur. You stood by me when everyone else was telling me to back down."

"I told you before," Arthur said softly, reaching out to gently touch her hand where it rested on the blueprint. "I was simply keeping a promise to Eleanor—and honoring the incredible woman sitting right in front of me."
The workshop fell into a comfortable, companionable silence, broken only by the distant hum of city traffic far below. The shadows of the past had entirely receded, leaving behind a clear, unobstructed path toward a shared future built on mutual respect, deep affection, and unyielding strength.
